Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Sacrilege

Title: Sacrilege

Artist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Album: Mosquito

Year: 2013

Genre: Indie Rock, Art Rock

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been working nearly ten years (last years “Maps” is the official celebration for that) trying to maneuver the crowd with them through their innovative art pop and rock anthems. To say their single “Sacrilege” simply defines and fits into that space would be an understatement.

I mean, come on, the title is enough to make you wonder what kind of beer-drinking shenanigans the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are up to again! Here we see Karen O falling for an angel with a choir (yes there is an actual choir!) chanting an exaggerated gospel swing behind her. Brian Chase keeps banging those cymbals and Nick Zimmer keeps hitting that guitar; this is not some beer-drinking game they’re pulling. It’s not some art pop losing half the music into it’s message or surreal meaning (take that Lady Gaga). “Sacrilege” is just the Yeah Yeah Yeahs being themselves.
